The Dominican Republic is enjoying increasing popularity
According to the ministry of tourism for the region, visitor arrivals to the Dominican Republic increased to over 2 million from January through to June, up 6.6% from 2007.
This is not surprising when so much investment is being poured into the infrastructure to improve airports, telecommunications, and tourism structures. The image of the Dominican Republic is changing for the better, drawing more and more travellers – and you heard it from the MRI team first!

Now is a good time to buy in Cyprus
According to experts, Cyprus currently offers some of the most promising property growth in Europe. Says property portal France24, the island has continued the property boom in the wake of its adoption of the euro in January 2008 – and accession to the EU has worked wonders in enhancing Cyprus’s reputation as a place with a strong investors’ market with great potential.
Many people are attracted to the island by its similarities with the UK – English is widely spoken, driving is on the left-hand side, and even the plug sockets are the same as those in the UK. These familiarities factor very strongly in the decisions of individuals to relocate to Cyprus and are a big enticement for Britons looking to invest.
Experts believe that rental rates are on the rise and interest in holiday lets will remain strong in the upcoming years.

Salvador Llopart, general director of the golf course in the north of Punta Cana announced plans for a special golf tournament on the 19, 20 and 21 September to introduce the course to local golfers.
There are plans to have categories for both men and women, and officials are offering prizes and trophies to participators. The organisers are expecting over 100 players to attend from all over the world – Spain, Miami, Puerto Rico and, of course, the Dominican Republic.
The MRI team here in the Dominican Republic are eagerly awaiting the excitement, so why don't you get your golfing shoes on and join us?

Punta Cana – a golfing paradise
Golfweek Magazine, a publication focusing on the Dominican Republic, successfully highlights the growth and importance of golf in the region – a sport which has had a huge effect on the Dominican Republic property market (property prices are steadily climbing on an average of 20 to 30% a year, and experts expect this trend to continue for at least the next 10 years).
The target market for golfing holidays and resorts in the Dominican Republic is ever-expanding, incorporating the US, Europe, Canada and South America. With legendary designers such as Tom Marzolf and Jack Nicklaus planning and opening courses around the area, enthusiasts will not be short of beautiful, top-rate greens to tee off on.
The magazine also reports on the newest project in the area, the Roco Ki, a resort offering miles of golden coastline as well as over 1000 hectares housing the renowned Westin and Fairmont hotels – not to mention the fabulous golf courses!
The tourism minister for the Dominican Republic, Felix Jiménez, says their “vision to grow the Dominican Republic’s east coast into an upscale golfer’s paradise” has transformed the region into the quintessential golfing destination.

MRI's campaign for Portugal’s rising property hotspot
Managing director of Quintas de Óbidos, a major development on the Silver Coast, reports that the Obidos area of the region is rapidly emerging as an up-and-coming property favourite.
He said: “The beauty of Obidos and the Silver Coast is that it has undergone strict local planning policies which means that it will not be over developed, ensuring that supply and demand will remain equally balanced.”
Indeed, According to Amberlamb, property prices along the coast have been climbing dependably, proving that there is demand for well-located property from both the local and overseas markets, and year-round rental income potential from golf and beach lovers.
The team here at MRI Overseas Property can vouch for the friendly temperatures and sunny days which, combined with historic culture and welcoming inhabitants, make Portugal one of the most-loved destinations in Europe.

A good time to buy in Bulgaria
According to a recent survey conducted by a reputable property portal, prospective and existing owners of property in Bulgaria may well be scheduled to enjoy considerable returns on their investments.
Government figures have suggested that house prices in the region have seen a noteworthy increase.
Good news for present and future MRI clients, as our team offers superb properties in the regions of Bansko and Sunny Beach, both areas offering great rental returns!
The area which encompasses Sunny Beach offers over four miles of fine golden sand encased by natural dunes and calm, sparkling water with a gently sloping sea bottom. The beaches are edged by the beautiful greenery of the nearby mountains, historical attractions and Unesco world heritage sites.
In contrast – and recently named by the Guardian as the number two spot in the world on its most recommended list of ski resorts – Bansko features the best and most modern ski centre in the country, boasting the best snow record and the longest season of all Bulgarian ski resorts.
Why not book a trip and inspect the area for yourself?

Spectacular, sunny Spain
A survey published by financial comparison company U-Switch has reported that Spain boasts the best quality of life in Europe! According to the survey, people living in Spain enjoy a cheaper cost of living when compared to European counterparts.
When you consider the easy way of life in the region, coupled with the sublime sunshine, it is not surprising that the Spanish Ministry of Tourism predicts that by 2025, 3 million foreigners will have relocated to Spain – treble the figure of today.
The MRI team deals in properties in some of the most sought-after areas of Spain – Costa Blanca, Costa Cálida, Costa Almería and the Costa del Sol, and it is in these areas that both buy-to-let and resale properties are hugely popular with property investors and those seeking retirement homes in the sun.

Dominican Republic tourism sector set for a boost
The tourism minister for the Dominican Republic, Felix Jiménez, recently announced a $1bn investment planned for the tourism infrastructure of the region.
Jiménez said: “We are very pleased with this impressive growth in tourism, and the new developments being planned will only improve our products as we continue to welcome record numbers of visitors from around the world.”
The region was recently named the number one Caribbean destination for international visitors by the Caribbean Tourism Organisation. Even Bill and Hillary Clinton choose the Punta Cana area for relaxing sojourns.

Popular Portugal – a great place to buy MRI
Quality of life in Portugal is reportedly amongst the best the world. According to Natwest’s Quality of Life index, the country scored the highest in Europe.
Many people are no longer prepared to endure year-long winters, and so countless buyers are looking to overseas properties, mainly for lifestyle reasons. Dismal year-round weather in the UK has encouraged people to buy homes in places like Portugal's Silver Coast, where sunshine is much more reliable.
Head of NatWest International Personal Banking, Dave Isley, said: “The NatWest IPB Quality of Life Index reveals that British expatriates are healthier, wealthier and happier... It is interesting that the study also reveals the motivation to leave [the UK] is not just dissatisfaction with life in the UK. The prospect of a good lifestyle abroad appears to finally prompt the decision to make the final leap.”

Government efforts in the UK
Efforts are being made by the government to help the UK housing market by introducing a “rent now buy later” housing plan.
To encourage first-time buyers, housing minister Caroline Flint has announced a plan in which households bringing in earnings less than £60,000 will be able to rent a property at a discounted rate for two or three years in order to save up a deposit.
The main aim of this scheme is to help first-time buyers step onto the property ladder.
With lively cities such as Birmingham (one of MRI’s regions!) rich in culture, shopping and nightlife contrasting with beautiful villages and a landscape abounding with lush green hills, dales, and a rugged coastline, it is not surprising that the UK has been an inspiration to poets and artists for centuries.

Wonderful Brazil
According to experts, buying a property in a country that boasts one of the seven wonders of the world offers a shrewd investment.
Now that the country has been officially recognised as host to one of the seven wonders, its flourishing economy and increasing growth in tourism-related property construction is likely to persist.
And with over 300 days of glorious tropical sunshine, white sand dunes framed by coconut trees, clear waters teeming with lobsters, and welcoming locals, it is easy to see why Brazil, and the region of Natal in particular, is becoming so popular.
MRI Overseas Property offers a wide range of properties in this region, so whatever you desire – be it a second home, holiday home, or pure investment opportunity – MRI is happy to assist!

Romania attracts the crowds
Bucharest is now becoming a popular venue for concerts and festivals, mainly due to its superb air links worldwide from Bucharest’s two international airports.
Last week Bucharest played host to one of Europe’s biggest dance music festivals – Creamfields Romania. Some world’s most illustrious DJ’s attracted hundreds of fans (although the MRI Overseas Property team would have enjoyed attending the party, we were diligently working – without complaint!). Attending artists included David Guetta, Ferry Corsten, David Morales, Mauro Picotto, Seb Fontaine, and Tall Paul.

New world record for property on the Côte d’Azur
Tongues are wagging at the MRI Nice office in France! A worldwide record for luxury property has been set in Saint Jean Cap Ferrat (on the Côte d’Azur) – what has become the most expensive villa in the world has been sold for a cool €500m!
According to reports, the villa was purchased by a Russian billionaire – apparently featured fairly regularly on Forbes magazine’s “World’s Richest People” list – whose name has been kept very hush-hush. We are all interested to know who it is!

Cape Verde – more popular than ever
The team here at MRI’s Cape Verde office is optimistic that the region’s property market will thrive in upcoming years. A recent article by the Move Channel reported that commentators have advised that more and more Brits are choosing the Cape Verde islands for their tropical holiday destination over more remote regions like the Maldives.
The report states that eco-friendly holidaymakers and second home buyers will find its geographical closeness to the UK an added attraction when they consider the much reduced carbon footprint they will be leaving by opting for a shorter flight!
The MRI Overseas Property team deals in real estate in this up-and-coming region, and we are ever hopeful that this news will generate increased confidence in the Cape Verde property market.

Plans to give Birmingham a makeover
Discussions between Birmingham City Council and one of the UK’s most established developers concerning renovation of the cities Paradise Circus and the Central Library site have transpired.
The cost of the project is estimated at £1bn, and plans involve 1.2 million sq ft of high quality offices, 823 apartments, a new hotel, shops, bars and restaurants.
Coun Hardeman of the Birmingham City Council called Paradise Circus a “horrible eyesore”, and a report drawn up for the council by the developers deemed it an “uninviting realm”.
The site currently separates two of the cities popular public squares of business and entertainment and, if plans to restore the property go ahead, it will improve the flow of people from one square to the other, and enhance the beauty of the city – which is news of significant importance to investors in MRI’s Birmingham developments!

Massive potential in Bucharest
The team here at MRI Overseas Property is very happy to ascertain that strong demand for new housing stock continues in Romania. Construction growth in the region is rising to meet this demand, which derives from the increasing number of young, middle-class residents who want to live and work in the city.
This is why MRI launched City Residence Bucharest – a development project which is specifically designed to appeal to these young Romanians. The development features 15 generously spaced blocks comprising studios, one bedroom units and three bedroom penthouses, and boasts finishes of the highest quality (MRI standards, of course!).
MRI City Residence Bucharest is ideally located close to two airports, points of employment, and what is soon to be the largest technology and commercial zone in central/eastern Europe.
And now, due to the increased availability of mortgages from many providers in Romania, the housing market is looking positive! The MRI team is delighted with this encouraging news!

The cheapest property rental areas in Spain
Reading the Move Channel’s website the other day, an interesting report came to light, revealing the locations of the cheapest rental properties Spain.
Among the areas listed were Málaga, Almería, Murcia and Alicante, where a front-line (golf or beach!) tourist apartment in August costs, on average, between €1,200 and €2,000 a month.
It is no surprise then that these areas are still hugely popular among holidaymakers who long for a relaxing summer in the sun, and is why MRI offers property investment and lifestyle opportunities in all of these regions.

New runway planned for Punta Cana International Airport
Due to the growing number of air traffic at Punta Cana International Airport, there are plans to construct a new runway in the near future. The runway will be built on the north side of the current runway and it will be able to accommodate an Airbus A380. This project is still in the planning stages and, if approved, construction will commence at the end of 2008.
As well as a new runway, there are plans for new taxiways, a new control tower, and expansion of the main terminal.
If the project proceeds, it will mean the airport will be better equipped to accommodate the increasing amount of visitors to the area – encouraging news for those who own (and wish to own!) property in MRI’s Punta Cana developments.

Punta Cana International Airport prospers
Punta Cana International Airport is a privately owned and managed commercial airport in the Dominican Republic, designed by architect Oscar Imbert and built in traditional Dominican style with open-air terminals and roofs covered in palm fronds. A large number of scheduled and charter airlines fly to Punta Cana, and so the airport handles over a million visitors yearly – making it the busiest airport in the Dominican Republic. Below are just some of the airlines that operate from the airport:
* Air Canada
* Air Europa
* Air France
* American Airlines
* Austrian Airlines
* Monarch Airlines
* Thomas Cook Airlines
* Thomsonfly
* United Airlines
We are happy to bear this news, as it means that current (and prospective!) clients of MRI Overseas Property can now enjoy even easier access to their properties in the hub of the Caribbean.

Things are looking good at MRI Cape Verde
Here at the MRI Cape Verde office we are seeing a rapid change in the current developments we deal with. The Villa Verde development is now being painted and windows have been installed. Cotton Bay Marina and Golf Resort started construction six weeks ago and the first crane went up last week. Tortuga Beach Resort and Dunas Beach Resort are now both fenced off and awaiting the final decisions on tenders. All is looking good!
As for the weather… well it’s the same as usual - sun, sun, sun, hot, hot, hot - and you won't hear any complaints from us! Just as Europe cools down, our season takes off. And with the price of fuel going up, Cape Verde offers travellers a quick, cheap, and stress-free way to explore the exotic, just a few hours’ flying time from the UK. We hope to see you here soon!

Our staff are awaiting the arrival of new gym equipment for the fitness area, which is being delivered today, and we are sure that this will complete a pleasant Aspen Golf experience for our visitors - we wish them a happy stay!

Annual jazz festival held in Bansko
This week everyone in our Bansko office is enjoying the crowds which have been attracted by the International Jazz Festival, which will go on from the 8 to 13 August, and was inspired by president of the Bulgarian society of acupuncture Dr Emil Iliev’s idea to transform the town into a “centre of significant cultural importance”.
It is the largest jazz festival in Eastern Europe, brings artists and performers from all over the world and, if last year’s festival is anything to go by, we are expecting it to draw more visitors than at the height of the ski season!

Irish Aer Lingus to fly Dublin-Sofia
Irish low-cost airline Aer Lingus has announced it will start a new twice weekly service between Dublin and Sofia for winter 2008, which is great news for all Irish owners or prospective owners of properties in MRI’s five Bansko developments.
Aer Lingus currently operates a flight to the Black Sea resort of Bourgas, which was launched earlier this year.
Enda Corneille, Aer Lingus corporate affairs director, said the new service "demonstrates our response to the continued consumer demand across our route network and is further testament to our proposition of low fares and great service".

Low-cost airline launches new Bulgarian service
People in north-west England who own property in Bulgaria are being targeted by low-cost airline easyJet. The budget carrier has confirmed that later this year, it will begin offering passage between Manchester and Sofia.
This will help open up the Bulgarian capital to leisure travellers in the north-west, a development which could lead to more people choosing to visit the city.
However, easyJet also believes that the route will be useful for many foreign property investors, a market spearheaded by MRI Overseas Property with its five Bansko developments, as Bulgaria is currently a very popular location among this group.
The airline commented: "The service to Sofia is ideal for the growing number of second home owners from the region investing in the Bulgarian market."
Passengers will be able to fly between Manchester and Sofia three times a week from December 2008.
This comes after analysts at Amberlamb said a number of strong fundamentals are supporting the Bulgarian housing market, such as the country's growing tourism industry.

San Javier office launches new advertising campaign
We have recently launched an advertising campaign promoting the great value for money that property in this area offers at the moment. For example, a one-bedroom apartment on one of the best beaches in Spain can be purchased for as little as €78,000.
Our creative department produced some great eye-catching banners which will be placed on our terrace in front of the office and we will be out there trying to pique the interest of passing trade.
We will surely generate some business from this initiative, and what’s more, we will have great fun doing it!

Settling down at MRI’s new office in San Javier
Now that we have settled into our new office serving the Costa Blanca, Cálida and Almería, it is time to take full advantage of the significant amount of passing trade expected throughout August.
The new office is the centrepiece of a brand-new commercial zone known as the 525 Square, which is named after the beautiful new four-star hotel that dominates the area, used by many of our clients here on inspection trips.
Many members of our sales team have been loaned-out to other regions which may be busier than us during the summer months, but everyone remaining on the team here – including management, administration and after-sales staff – are all getting stuck in and into the spirit of things.

The Faro Bike Rally 2008 brings the masses to Portugal
The smell of petrol and exhaust fumes filled the air this July in Faro as, for the 27th year running, tens of thousands of bikers came from all over the world to participate in Europe’s largest biker rally.
The event showcased gleaming Harleys, Hondas and Kawasakis paraded by proud owners, and even rusty old mopeds were dragged from the recesses of garages. The town was pumping with adrenalin and excitement as bike fanatics, locals and anyone who has ever owned, sat on, or looked at a motorbike before came out to partake in the festivities.
Bikers from Madeira were also able to join the four-day party, bringing their motorcycles with them on the new Funchal-Portimao ferry crossing, and they were not disappointed!
Tents and marquees were erected, kiosks and bars set up, businesses welcomed the influx of trade, road safety was, of course, adhered to at all times, and the party was made complete by a constant string of shows and concerts – including the super-popular Joe Cocker, much to everyone’s joy!
The final day saw hefty, tattooed men; beautiful, scantily-clad women; families; teenagers; and pensioners alike saying their goodbyes, packing their belongings and riding into the distance, leaving a cloud of dust in their wake. Until next year…

Confirmation of construction of new marina in Cyprus
The long-awaited confirmation of the new Paphos marina was finally announced recently.
Construction has been awarded to a well-established property developer, and the marina will have berths for 1000 vessels, as well as a restaurant, bar and car-park.
The great news is that, according to a Cypriot newspaper, property investors who own homes in the surrounding land have seen their Cypriot real estate triple in value since the decision was made.
This bodes very well for anybody interested in investment property in Cyprus, and we are delighted to pass on the news.

“Jumbo” supermarket to open in the Dominican Republic
It has been announced that a new mega-supermarket will be opening in the Bavaro/Punta area, which will sell international products. If this does indeed come about, it means that supermarket shopping in the Dominican Republic will offer tourists, retirees and second-home owners more familiarity and variation.
It is comforting for our homeowners in this region to think of being able to relax in exotic surroundings, miles away from mortgages, school runs and work, and still being able to walk into a supermarket and recognise what is in front of them. What luxury!
