Quality of life in Portugal is reportedly amongst the best the world. According to Natwest’s Quality of Life index, the country scored the highest in Europe.

Many people are no longer prepared to endure year-long winters, and so countless buyers are looking to overseas properties, mainly for lifestyle reasons. Dismal year-round weather in the UK has encouraged people to buy homes in places like Portugal's Silver Coast, where sunshine is much more reliable.

Head of NatWest International Personal Banking, Dave Isley, said: “The NatWest IPB Quality of Life Index reveals that British expatriates are healthier, wealthier and happier... It is interesting that the study also reveals the motivation to leave [the UK] is not just dissatisfaction with life in the UK. The prospect of a good lifestyle abroad appears to finally prompt the decision to make the final leap.”
